Land Management

Much of the land-mass of the Falklands has been modified since settlers arrived. To sustain the economy farming was widely established leaving all but a few of the smaller offshore islands untouched. As a result the terrestrial environment has been heavily modified and historic practices of burning and over-grazing have left significant areas degraded.
Today landowners are learning from the past, putting in place grazing management and trialling techniques for re-vegetation. Some are setting aside areas for native species.
Falklands Conservation is trialling re-vegetating techniques and working with landowners in carrying out restorations activities, including on our own reserves.
