Working with the local and international community to conserve the natural environment of the Falkland Islands Donate to New Island - click link below

A huge thank you to all the volunteers who once again helped with the tussac planting on Middle Island this year.
Thursday was long, Friday was wet, and Sunday couldn't decide — swinging between squalls, sunshine ☀️ and howling winds 💨. But the team kept smiling through it all. Hopefully there was some fun tucked between the mud, and a hot bath (or two) afterwards to thaw out! Apologies to any jackets that may never return to their true original colour! 🧥🌿.
This marks the sixth year of tussac planting trips with @georgiaseafoods, and the difference is really starting to show. Early bogs are now thriving, providing shelter and seed for a whole new generation of seedlings — nature lending a hand to the hard work.
Middle Island is growing greener, one muddy boot at a time! 🌱

Conservation isn’t just about the big moments—it’s about the careful planning, dedication, and hands-on work that happens long before the action begins. 🐥🛠️
Before we could complete our recent Cobb’s wren translocation trial, Grant, our Terrestrial Lead, got his builder’s hat and gloves on to start work on these incredible custom-made transport boxes that would safely carry these special birds to their new home. 🏠 Every detail mattered—ensuring the boxes were well-ventilated, secure, and comfortable for the journey. 👍
This behind-the-scenes effort, along with months of planning and teamwork, all aided in the translocation effort. A massive thanks to the Darwin Plus Scheme for funding this crucial project which is helping to conserve extraordinary British wildlife in UK Overseas Territories. 🐦💚

#Falklands Conservation has completed the first-ever trial translocation of Cobb’s wren, moving birds to an island that has previously been cleared of invasive rats, opening up new rodent-free territory for wrens to thrive in. 🐦🌿
Our team spent the day carefully gathering, measuring, and ringing the birds before transporting them in specially designed boxes to their new home. By giving them a helping hand, we’re helping them reclaim lost habitat and boost their population.
A huge thanks to our partners & volunteers for making this milestone possible, especially the Darwin Plus Scheme for funding this vital conservation action.
Now, we wait & watch—fingers crossed for breeding success next summer! 🤞💚 #ConservationWin #FalklandsNature

🧡🐧 Happy Penguin Awareness Day! 🐧🧡
Today, we’re celebrating the incredible penguins that call the Falkland Islands home. 🏝️ With five breeding species—including the iconic king and gentoo penguins—the Falklands are one of the best places in the world to witness these charismatic birds in their natural habitat. 🌊
But our penguins face challenges, from climate change to threats to their food sources. That’s why Falklands Conservation works tirelessly to protect their habitats and ensure their future. 🌱
Join us in honouring these amazing birds by supporting our conservation efforts! 🐧💙
